Asaf Tzachor

Dr. Asaf Tzachor is Lead Researcher for Food Security and Research Associate at the Center for the Study of Existential Risk (CSER) and the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH), at the University of Cambridge.

He is currently leading the global food security research project at CSER. The research explores dependencies and distortions in the agri-food system and the food-water-energy security nexus. His particular interests are to better understand what shocks might threaten global food security, what the consequences of such disruptions may be, and how we can work to mitigate these risks; with a focus on the development of innovative technologies and assessing the sustainability performance of novel food sources and systems. He completed his doctoral research in the field of Science and Technology Policy at UCL Faculty of Engineering Sciences investigating technological transitions in mono-cultures, and was also a Lab Researcher in the field of Urban Innovation and Natural Disaster Risk Reduction. He was a Research Scholar at Columbia University, studied Environmental Sciences at Balliol College, University of Oxford, was a member of the Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Program at the University of Oxford, and he is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
