Whither the Globalists? The Changing Imaginaries of 'the Global' | 2019 Cambridge Festival of Ideas

17:30-18:30 | 17 October 2019 | Alison Richard Building, Room S1, Sidgwick Site 7 West Road, CB3 9DT

In recent years, the critique of “globalists” has become a part of politicians’ repertoire both on the left and the right. This talk inquires the theoretical foundations for this critique and explains the changed attitudes towards “the global”. Referring to these recent critiques of ‘globalism’, the talk situates different understandings of globality and how they shape ethical considerations. It traces the changing imaginaries of globality during the last decades and how they have been influencing the perceptions about ‘our’ responsibility towards ‘others’ in surprising ways.

The event will start with a lecture and then continue as an open discussion. The lecture will be delivered by gloknos postdoctoral researcher Felix Anderl.
